InCommon Certificate Service

Unlimited Certificates for One Low Fee

InCommon Certificate Service

Includes unlimited certificates for one fixed annual fee, including SSL, extended validation, client (personal), and code signing certificates. All of the domains you own or control (.edu, .net, .org., .com, and others) are covered.

Comodo is Now Sectigo

Our Certficate Service partner, Comodo, has changed its name to Sectigo. At this point, the old Comodo website continues to function and all of the links continue to work. Read more . . .

Single Sign-On and Multifactor Authentication Available

The use of single sign-on and multifactor authentication for accessing the Sectigo (formerly Comodo) Certificate Manager is available to any subscriber that also operates an Identity Provider in the InCommon Federation. See this wiki page for details.

Cost Savings - Unlimited certificates for a fixed annual fee takes the guess work out of budgeting. (And Internet2 members receive a 25% discount.)

Comprehensive - Includes all of your domains — .edu and non-edu alike, such as athletics and professional societies.

Ease of Use - Through Sectigo (formerly Comodo)'s certificate manager interface, certificates are easy to order and install. Issue certificates for three years or one year — it's your choice.

Single Sign-On and Multifactor Authentication Available - If you have an identity provider in InCommon and you support multifactor, your cert administrators can take advantage of this feature.

Contracted with Sectigo (formerly Comodo) - A leading commercial provider of certificates.

Private Label Certificate Authorities - Intermediate CAs with campus-specific profiles and practice statements are available to members who desire this functionality for an additional cost.

"Our cost saving is roughly in the $65-$75K range annually, compared to our
previous certificate provider. That's a 4-5x return on investment."

Case Studies

University of Minnesota - "Cost alone was sufficient reason to subscribe, but speed, the delegable workflow, and community support were also compelling features."

University of Rochester - "The process of requesting and receiving certificates now happens very quickly, and most of the paper handoffs and manual interventions are gone."

Types of Certificates Available

The InCommon Certificate Service offers SSL, extended validation, client (personal), code signing, and other types of certificates for all of your domains. See the wiki for a complete list and details on each type of certificate.

Any higher education institution with its primary location in the United States, and qualifying for a primary domain name in .edu, may subscribe. Not-for-profit regional RENs (Research and Education Networks) in the United States may also subscribe. Subscribers must be InCommon participants or join InCommon. You can pursue joining InCommon and subscribing to the cert service simultaneously. The fees page has more information on eligibility.
